TRAVELS WITH MY SPOON
(2014-2015)

Since ‘Reincarnation’ (2008-2009), I have collected disposable spoons from everywhere I visit in the world. I heat these spoons, altering their shapes, and use them to replace the wax in the lost wax casting process.
By transforming them with precious metals, the integrity of the spoon is re-written, giving birth to its new life. In this way, an object once considered trash becomes valuable forever—disposable becomes collectible, and the mass-produced becomes a unique one-off.
Lost wax casting is a process through which wax models are immersed in plaster, the wax is then burnt out, and molten metal is poured into the resulting cavity.
