Question the Answer
Tithi Kutchamuch, born in Chiang Rai in 1981, is an artist and designer. She earned a Bachelor of Architecture in Industrial Design from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Bangkok and went on to complete an MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London in 2007.
Tithi has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. She was named “Winner of the Best Newcomer” by the Crafts Council UK and received the Pyramid Award, now known as the Deutsche Bank Award for Creative Entrepreneurs. In Thailand, she was honoured as Designer of the Year in both the Jewellery and Product categories by the Royal Thai Government.
Her creations are held in prestigious collections worldwide, including The Alice and Louis Koch Collection at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich and the International Collection of Contemporary Jewellery in Legnica, Poland.
Growing up in a household filled with animals—ranging from peacocks and hedgehogs to a gibbon ape—deeply influenced Tithi’s artistic perspective. This lively and unique environment instilled in her a profound appreciation for nature, which remains a central theme in her work.
Alongside her connection to nature, Tithi explores broader social and cultural issues in her creations. A recurring theme in her work is the exploration of capitalism and the shared beliefs that underpin human systems. She examines concepts such as the value we collectively assign to objects, our faith in currency systems, and the human drive to possess what is deemed desirable. These ideas are often presented in ways that challenge perceptions, inviting viewers to reflect on their relationship with these constructs.
Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, memories, and societal systems, Tithi transforms the ordinary into compelling visual narratives. Her pieces reflect her distinctive perspective, encouraging viewers to engage with her interpretation of the world and the interplay between the personal and universal.
Tithi’s design approach is both unconventional and interdisciplinary. Her work transcends traditional categories, seamlessly blending art objects, functional jewellery, decorative items, and architectural projects. This boundary-pushing ethos imbues her creations with a distinct artistic vision, challenging conventional design norms while engaging with diverse mediums and forms.
